the SILENT POST / EXQUISITE CORPSE project
This project is a 'Chinese Whispers' meets 'Exquisite Corpse'-like super-8 film project where two separate 8mm film cartridges are sent around the world to different film-makers who all blindly shoot a section of the film before sending the cartridge on the next person to do the same before eventually being send back to the Parasitic Fantasy Band in New Zealand.
Each film-makers contribution is made without knowing what else has been shot on the cartridge. One word is to be supplied by the previous contributor as a guide, influence or departure point for the next persons contribution. That word should relate in some way to the last persons contribution. Similar in structure to the Exquisite Corpse game of folding a piece of paper and each person drawing a different part of a characters body (like the head, mid part and legs) with only a tiny detail of the last section exposed as guidelines (see supplied example).
The result of the project will be a silent 8-minute film entitled “Silent Post/Exquisite Corpse” composed of the two film cartridges.
We don’t know what the film will be, but we trust it will be illustrative of the threads of the networks and artistic connections it has travelled through.
GUIDELINES - LOGISTICS
Basically – get it, shoot one minute and send it on!
- The film cartridge you have been sent is a Super 8, Kodachrome, 64T cartridge.
- Each filmmaker shoots one minute (or less) of the four minute cartridge
- What you shoot should be somehow influenced or inspired by the word which you have been supplied with by the previous filmmaker. You are free to interpret this information in whatever manner you desire. Do what you want.
- Once you have finished shooting you must choose another filmmaker to pass on the film to.
Before you send the film, please contact your chosen filmmaker and ensure they are interested, and able to participate.

- You must have sent the film within five days of receiving it whether you have shot it or not, but even if you don't manage to shoot, add your name to the back of this form anyway.
- Before you post the film please write your details on the back of this form, including a new word (somehow relating to the section you have contributed) for the next filmmaker to use and the duration of your contribution.
- When posting the film please include; this sheet of paper and the film cartridge.
- We are happy to pay for postage (although please choose a relatively cheap option). To have us reimburse you please email hello@parasiticfantasyband.org.nz

ATTRIBUTION
- The final film print will be screened by Parasitic Fantasy Band hopefully as part of their pending tour of Los Angeles & San Francisco in April 09 (fingers crossed it’s done in time :).
- Each contributor will and must be rightfully acknowledged at every screening.
- We’ll also post each contributor a DVD copy.
- The project will have a Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial No Derivatives License and by contributing to the project you are accepting the terms of this license. Basically means you are all allowed to show and distribute the film as you please and if you want to borrow the original 8mm print to screen you are welcome to.
